I Trust Where I’m Being Led
I think one of the hardest things in life is not knowing what comes next.
We like certainty. We like plans. We like knowing that if we take this step, then that thing will happen, and eventually we’ll end up exactly where we’re supposed to be.
But life doesn’t really work like that, does it?
Sometimes you can do everything “right” and still find yourself standing somewhere you never expected to be.
And sometimes the things that felt like they were completely derailing your life actually end up pointing you in a direction you would never have chosen for yourself.
I’m learning that I don’t need to know the whole route.
I just need to know my next step.
There have been so many times in my life when I’ve wanted answers immediately. I’ve wanted to know how something was going to turn out, whether I was making the right decision, whether something was meant for me, or when everything would finally make sense.
And the more I tried to figure everything out, the more overwhelmed I became.
Because sometimes there simply isn’t an answer yet.
Sometimes you’re still in the middle of the story.
You Don’t Need the Whole Map
Imagine walking through a forest at night with a lantern.
The lantern doesn’t light up the entire forest.
It doesn’t show you where you’ll be tomorrow or what’s waiting miles ahead.
It just gives you enough light to see the next few steps.
And somehow, that’s enough.
I think life can be like that too.
We put so much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out. Where we’re going. What we’re doing. Who we’re becoming. What our relationships will look like. Whether our dreams will work out.
But maybe we’re not supposed to know all of that yet.
Maybe we’re only supposed to see what’s directly in front of us.
Take that step.
Then the next bit becomes visible.
And then we take another.
Trusting Yourself
For me, trusting where I’m being led isn’t about believing that some magical force is going to swoop in and make everything perfect.
It’s about learning to trust myself.
Trusting that I’ll recognise when something feels right.
Trusting that I’m allowed to change direction.
Trusting that if something ends, I can survive the ending.
Trusting that I don’t have to cling to something simply because it’s familiar.
And trusting that when something inside me quietly says keep going, I can listen.
I think sometimes we mistake uncertainty for being lost.
They’re not the same thing.
You can be unsure of where you’re going and still be moving in exactly the direction you need to go.
Stop Looking Backwards
There are things we outgrow.
Old versions of ourselves. Old expectations. Relationships. Habits. Beliefs. Dreams that once fitted us but somehow don’t anymore.
And letting them go can be terrifying because even when something isn’t right for us anymore, at least it’s familiar.
The unknown isn’t.
But constantly looking backwards makes it very difficult to notice what’s opening up in front of you.
You don’t have to hate your past to leave it behind.
You don’t have to regret where you’ve been.
You can appreciate what something taught you and still decide that you’re ready for whatever comes next.
Maybe You’re Not Lost
If you’re in one of those strange in-between chapters at the moment, where the old life doesn’t quite fit anymore but the new one hasn’t fully appeared yet, please don’t assume you’re doing something wrong.
Maybe you’re not lost.
Maybe you’re just somewhere you’ve never been before.
You don’t need to rush through it.
You don’t need to have all the answers.
And you definitely don’t need to have the next five years of your life planned out by Tuesday.
Just look for the next step.
The conversation you need to have.
The thing you need to let go of.
The idea you can’t stop thinking about.
The opportunity that keeps pulling at you.
The tiny decision that feels right today.
Then take it.
You can figure out the step after that when you get there.
I don’t know exactly where every path I’m currently walking will lead me.
And strangely, I’m becoming more okay with that.
Because maybe trust isn’t knowing that everything will happen exactly the way you want it to.
Maybe trust is knowing that whatever happens, you’ll meet yourself there.
And you’ll know what to do next.
Today’s affirmation
I trust where I’m being led, even when I cannot see the whole path.
Take the next step, wild one.
You don’t need to see the whole journey yet.
