13 August 2026Transformation: Trusting the Person You Are Becoming
Transformation doesn’t always arrive with some huge life-changing moment. Sometimes it happens so quietly that you don’t even realise it’s happening until one day you look back and think, bloody hell, I’m not the same person I was.
And I think that’s the kind of transformation we don’t talk about enough.
We tend to imagine transformation as becoming someone completely new. A fresh start. A new version of ourselves. But I don’t think it’s always about becoming someone else. Sometimes it’s about letting go of everything we picked up along the way that was never really us in the first place.
The expectations. The fear. The need to keep everyone happy. The versions of ourselves we created simply because they helped us survive certain chapters of our lives.
Growth can feel uncomfortable because the things that once felt familiar don’t always fit anymore. Relationships change. Priorities shift. Things you once tolerated suddenly feel impossible to accept. You might find yourself wanting different things, protecting your peace more fiercely or questioning choices you would once have made without a second thought.
That doesn’t mean you’re losing yourself.
It might actually mean you’re finally finding yourself.
You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
There’s a strange part of transformation where you’ve outgrown the person you were, but you’re not completely sure who you’re becoming yet.
That middle bit can feel messy.
It can feel like standing between two versions of your life with one foot still in the familiar and the other reaching towards something you can’t quite see yet.
We put so much pressure on ourselves to know exactly where we’re going. To have the plan, the answers and the perfectly organised next chapter.
But sometimes the next step is simply trusting yourself enough to keep moving.
You don’t need to know exactly who you’ll be a year from now.
You only need to give yourself permission to meet that person when you get there.
Some Things Are Meant to Be Shed
A butterfly doesn’t carry its cocoon around because it once kept it safe.
And neither should we.
There are things we needed once that we might not need anymore. Coping mechanisms. Armour. Habits. Beliefs. Even certain versions of our identity.
Letting them go doesn’t mean they were pointless.
They got us here.
We can appreciate the person we needed to be while still allowing ourselves to become someone different.
That’s something I’m learning more and more: you don’t have to hate your past self in order to grow beyond them.
You can look back with compassion and say, thank you for getting me through that.
And then keep walking.
Trust the Person You Are Becoming
Maybe transformation isn’t about creating a better version of yourself.
Maybe it’s about becoming a freer one.
A version that laughs louder. Loves more openly. Sets boundaries without apologising for them. Changes their mind. Tries things. Gets things wrong. Starts again. Takes up space. Dreams bigger.
A version that stops asking for permission to live a life that actually feels like their own.
There will always be another layer to shed and another lesson to learn. We’re never really finished becoming.
And perhaps that’s the beautiful part.
So if life feels a little uncertain right now, you don’t need to rush to define what comes next.
Keep listening to yourself.
Keep choosing what feels true.
Keep allowing yourself to change.
You are not required to remain the person you once needed to be.
Today’s affirmation:
I trust the person I am becoming.
And maybe, for today, trusting them is enough.
