From The Wildflowers
21 August 2026Take the Leap — What If It Goes Right?
This morning I pulled the Basil card. Its message was about prosperity, luck, love and, most importantly for me, forward movement.
That last bit really stuck with me.
There comes a point where you have done enough thinking, enough planning and enough preparing. You can spend forever standing at the edge wondering whether you’re ready, whether it’s the right time, whether it’ll work, or whether you should wait just a little bit longer.
Eventually, you have to move.
And I think a lot of us get stuck there.
We tell ourselves we’re being sensible. We need another course first. We need more money. More confidence. More knowledge. We need somebody else to tell us it’s a good idea. We need a sign from the universe so ridiculously obvious that it practically smacks us around the face.
But sometimes all that preparation becomes another way of hiding from the possibility that we might fail.
I know I’ve done it.
There have been so many times in my life when I’ve thought, I’ll do it when I feel ready.
The problem is, ready is a bloody moving target.
Every time you get close to it, your brain invents another reason why you should wait. Suddenly there’s one more thing you need to learn, one more problem you need to solve, one more little bit of confidence you apparently need to find before you’re allowed to begin.
And sometimes you just have to say, fuck it. I’m going.
Not recklessly. Not blindly. Not because somebody on the internet told you to throw your entire life into chaos before breakfast. 😂
But because deep down, you already know what you want to do, and the only thing keeping you standing still is fear.
The reflection that came with the Basil card asked:
What would you do today if you knew luck was on your side?
That one got me.
Because take away the fear of it going wrong for a second. Take away what other people might think. Take away embarrassment, failure and all those imaginary conversations you’ve already had in your head.
What would you choose?
Would you start the business you’ve been thinking about for years? Apply for the job you don’t think you’re qualified enough for? Take the course? Post the thing? Book the trip? Walk away from something you’ve outgrown? Tell somebody how you feel?
What would you do if you weren’t already preparing yourself for everything that could possibly go wrong?
Your answer doesn’t necessarily mean you should immediately turn your entire life upside down. Sometimes fear exists for a perfectly good reason, and taking a leap doesn’t mean abandoning common sense.
But I think it’s worth paying attention to whatever came into your head.
Because sometimes we already know where we want to go.
We’re just frightened to take the first step.
I’m also learning that confidence doesn’t always arrive before you do something.
We think we’re supposed to suddenly wake up one morning transformed into this incredibly confident person who knows exactly what they’re doing. Then, and only then, we’ll finally be brave enough to begin.
Except I’m starting to think we’ve got it backwards.
Sometimes you have to do the scary thing while you’re still scared.
You take one terrifying little step and realise you survived it.
Then another.
Then another.
And eventually you look behind you and realise you’ve built an entire path out of all those tiny moments when you chose courage over certainty.
I’ve spent a lot of time recently learning, exploring, changing and figuring out what I actually want my life to look like. And I’m realising there’s a difference between giving yourself time to grow and hiding indefinitely in the preparation stage.
Learning is important. Planning is important. Preparing yourself is important.
But eventually?
You’ve got to actually live the bloody thing.
There will probably never be a moment when every single piece falls perfectly into place. There will always be something you could learn first. There will always be another reason to wait until next week, next month or next year.
Meanwhile, life keeps moving.
So that’s what I’m taking into today.
I take the leap with confidence and trust.
Not because I know exactly where I’m going to land.
Not because everything is guaranteed to work out perfectly.
And definitely not because I’ve suddenly figured out the secret to life before breakfast. 😂
I’m taking the leap because I’m learning to trust myself enough to know that whatever happens, I’ll deal with it when I get there.
Maybe you’ve been waiting too.
Maybe there’s something you’ve been quietly thinking about for months — or even years — and every time it comes back into your mind, you find another reason why now isn’t the right time.
So instead of asking yourself whether you’re completely ready, ask yourself something else:
What’s one step I could take today?
It doesn’t have to be massive.
Send the email.
Research the course.
Write the first page.
Make the phone call.
Put your name down.
Tell someone your idea.
Start.
Because the leap doesn’t always look like jumping off a cliff.
Sometimes it’s just finally moving one foot forward.
And if your brain immediately starts whispering, but what if it all goes wrong?…
Ask it another question.
What if it goes right?
