From The Wildflowers
28 August 2026Let It Be Easy
I think sometimes we become so used to life being hard that when things finally start to feel a little easier, we don’t know what to do with ourselves.
We wait for the catch.
We start wondering what’s going to go wrong next. We overthink the quiet. We question the good things. Sometimes we even create problems in our own heads because peace feels more unfamiliar than chaos ever did.
And I’ve realised how bloody exhausting that is.
When you’ve spent a long time surviving, you get very good at it. You learn how to pick yourself back up, how to keep going when you don’t particularly want to, how to solve problems and somehow find another tiny bit of strength when you were absolutely certain you’d used it all.
Those things make us strong, but I don’t think we’re supposed to live there forever.
Healing isn’t just learning how to survive the difficult days. It’s also learning how to actually enjoy the good ones.
That’s something I’m still learning.
I’m learning that I don’t have to earn every good thing through suffering first. I don’t need to feel guilty for resting because there are things I could be doing. I don’t need to fill every quiet moment with something productive and I definitely don’t need to spend today worrying about a problem that might never happen tomorrow.
Sometimes nothing is wrong.
Imagine that!
Sometimes you’re having a good day because you’re having a good day. Sometimes things feel peaceful because they actually are peaceful. Sometimes you’re happy because you’re happy, and you don’t need to immediately interrogate the feeling or prepare yourself for it to disappear.
We’re always being told to push harder, work harder, do more, become more. And yes, there are times when we need to give ourselves a kick up the arse and get moving.
But there are also times when we need to stop bloody fighting everything.
Let the morning be slow. Drink the coffee while it’s still hot. Sit in the sunshine. Laugh at something ridiculous. Put your phone down. Take the nap. Say no to something you don’t actually want to do. Stop trying to turn every moment of your life into another opportunity for self-improvement.
You are allowed to simply exist in it.
Because a peaceful life doesn’t mean you’ve stopped growing. Rest doesn’t mean you’re lazy. Contentment doesn’t mean you’ve lost your ambition. And choosing the easier path doesn’t automatically mean you’ve chosen the wrong one.
Maybe we’re not supposed to struggle quite as much as we’ve convinced ourselves we are.
So that’s what I’m reminding myself today.
I don’t need to force anything. I don’t need to have everything figured out. I don’t need to go searching for storms just because I’ve become good at surviving them.
If today wants to be gentle, I’ll let it.
If something makes me smile, I’ll enjoy it without questioning how long it’ll last.
And if life gives me an easy day?
I’m certainly not going to bloody argue with it.
I am allowed to let life be easy today.
