More of Me, Not Less for Them

You Don’t Have to Choose Just One Version of Yourself
16 September 2026Pay Attention to What Gives You Energy
We talk a lot about protecting our energy and noticing what drains us, but I think sometimes we forget to pay attention to the other side of it. What actually gives you energy?
What are the things that make you light up when you talk about them? What do you start doing and suddenly realise an hour has disappeared? What leaves you physically tired afterwards but somehow still feeling completely alive inside?
I’ve been noticing this a lot in my own life lately. I’ve been doing more, learning more, trying new things and saying yes to experiences I probably would have talked myself out of in the past. On paper, you’d think I’d be exhausted by all of it. And obviously there are moments when I am tired, because I’m still human and unfortunately haven’t discovered how to recharge myself by plugging into the wall yet.
But there’s a difference between being tired because something has drained every last bit of life out of you and being tired because you’ve spent your day doing something that genuinely fills you up.
That difference is huge.
Sound healing has been one of those things for me. The first time I properly set everything up, with the crystal bowls, candles, lighting and the whole atmosphere, I absolutely loved it. I wasn’t sitting there wondering whether I was doing something productive enough or whether I should be doing something else. I was completely in it.
And that feeling tells you something.
The same thing happens when I’m creating, learning about something new, going to a workshop, meeting people I connect with or disappearing down another spiritual rabbit hole because something has caught my attention. There’s a curiosity there. I want to know more. I want to try it. I want to see where it goes.
I think we’re sometimes taught to dismiss that excitement as just a hobby, a phase or something we should fit in once all the “important” things are done. But what if the things that light you up are important too?
They don’t necessarily have to become your job. They don’t have to make money. They don’t even have to make sense to anybody else. Sometimes something can simply bring joy into your life, and that is reason enough to make space for it.
But sometimes those little sparks do lead somewhere.
You try one thing, which introduces you to somebody else, which leads you to another experience, which makes you curious about something you’d never considered before. Suddenly you look back and realise that one tiny decision opened an entire path you couldn’t have planned if you tried.
That’s why I’m learning to pay attention to what gives me energy instead of only focusing on what takes it away.
Notice the people you feel better after spending time with. Notice the subjects you could talk about for hours. Notice what you’re constantly researching without anybody telling you to. Notice the ideas that keep coming back. Notice what makes you excited to get up and actually do something.
You don’t have to know where any of it is going yet.
You’re allowed to follow curiosity simply because it’s calling you.
I certainly don’t have every step of my life mapped out at the minute. Far from it. I’m basically following little sparks, seeing what lights up and going, “Right then, let’s have a look over there.”
And I’m actually really enjoying where it’s taking me.
So maybe instead of asking yourself what you should be doing next, ask yourself something slightly different.
What gives me energy?
Then pay attention to the answer.
