Be the Energy You Want in the Room
1 October 2026The Magic Returns When You Stop Abandoning Yourself
My magic begins with me.
Have you ever stopped and wondered when you started putting yourself at the bottom of your own priority list? Not because anyone necessarily asked you to, but because somewhere along the way, making everyone else happy became more important than making yourself happy.
It’s funny how we do that, isn’t it? We spend so much time being who everyone else needs us to be that we forget who we actually are underneath it all.
We become the responsible one, the strong one, the one who keeps everything together. We make ourselves smaller, quieter, more acceptable. We put our interests to one side, talk ourselves out of trying new things and convince ourselves that we’ll get around to doing what makes us happy eventually.
And then one day, you realise you’ve been living your life with yourself as an afterthought.
I think one of the biggest things I’ve been learning on my own journey is that finding yourself isn’t necessarily about becoming somebody completely different. Sometimes it’s about remembering who you were before you started worrying so much about what everyone else thought.
It’s about allowing yourself to be curious again. Trying something because it interests you, even if nobody around you understands it. Wearing what makes you feel fabulous, exploring things that make your soul feel alive and giving yourself permission to enjoy being a little bit different.
And believe me, I’ve certainly embraced the different!
I’ve spent so much of this year exploring spirituality, witchcraft, healing and all sorts of things that probably wouldn’t have crossed my mind a few years ago. Not because I’ve suddenly become somebody else, but because I’ve finally started giving myself permission to explore the things that feel right for me.
And the beautiful thing is, I’m still learning. I’m still figuring things out. There are things I don’t understand yet, things I want to try and probably plenty of things I’ll make a complete hash of along the way. But that’s part of the adventure, isn’t it?
I don’t need to have everything figured out to enjoy discovering it.
And neither do you.
You don’t have to wait until you’ve healed every wound, overcome every fear or got your entire life organised before you start doing things that make you happy. Good grief, if I waited until I had everything sorted, I’d probably be waiting until my next incarnation!
You can be a work in progress and still have a wonderful life.
You can have difficult days and still find moments of joy. You can be uncertain about where you’re going and still enjoy the path you’re walking. You can change your mind, discover new passions and realise that some of the things you once wanted no longer fit the person you’re becoming.
That’s not failure. That’s growth.
And sometimes growth means recognising the little ways we’ve been abandoning ourselves. Saying yes when we desperately want to say no. Ignoring our own needs because somebody else’s always seem more urgent. Talking ourselves out of something exciting because we’re worried about looking ridiculous.
Well, what if we stopped doing that?
What if we started treating our own happiness as something worth making time for? What if we followed our curiosity instead of constantly questioning it? What if we allowed ourselves to be exactly who we are, without feeling the need to explain it to everyone?
I think that’s where a lot of our magic lives.
Not necessarily in the grand gestures or the enormous life changes, but in those little moments when we choose ourselves. When we listen to that quiet part of us that’s been waiting patiently to be heard.
For me, magic isn’t just about the candles, crystals, cards or rituals. As much as I absolutely adore all of those things, it’s also about the freedom I’ve found in exploring them. The confidence to try something new. The joy of discovering parts of myself I didn’t even realise were there.
And most importantly, realising that I don’t need anyone else’s permission to do it.
I’m not at the end of my journey. Far from it. I’ve barely scratched the surface of everything I want to learn and experience, and that’s actually quite exciting.
Because for the first time in a long time, I’m not trying to squeeze myself into somebody else’s idea of who I should be.
I’m simply discovering who I am.
So if you’ve been feeling a little disconnected from yourself lately, perhaps it’s time to ask what you’ve been putting aside. What used to make you happy? What have you always wanted to explore? What would you do if you weren’t worrying about somebody else’s opinion?
You don’t need to reinvent yourself overnight. Just start making a little room for yourself in your own life again.
Because the magic you’ve been searching for might not be something you need to find out there in the world.
It might be something you’ve been carrying within you all along.
