30 August 2026Protect Your Energy, Not Your Image
There comes a point where you realise just how bloody exhausting it is trying to control how other people see you.
You explain yourself. Then explain yourself again. You try to make sure nobody has misunderstood what you meant, why you did something or where your heart was. And before you know it, you’ve spent half your energy trying to manage a version of yourself that only exists in somebody else’s head.
And the truth is, you can’t.
People are going to see you through the lens of their own experiences, opinions, insecurities and sometimes their own agenda. You could explain yourself perfectly and somebody who is determined to misunderstand you will still find a way to do it.
So why are we exhausting ourselves trying?
Protecting your peace sometimes means allowing somebody to be wrong about you. And fuck me, that can be difficult. Especially when you know you could defend yourself. When you have the receipts. When you could write an entire bloody essay explaining exactly what happened.
But just because you can respond doesn’t mean you need to.
There’s a massive difference between standing up for yourself when it matters and constantly feeling like you need to prove that you’re a good person. The people who genuinely know you don’t need a presentation. They’ve seen your character in your actions, not in whatever story somebody else has decided to tell about you.
And the people who don’t know you? They’re allowed their opinion.
That doesn’t make their opinion your responsibility.
I think healing has taught me that peace isn’t always about everything around you becoming peaceful. Sometimes it’s about deciding what gets access to you. What deserves your attention. What gets a response and what gets left exactly where it belongs.
Not everything needs correcting.
Not every misunderstanding needs clearing up.
Not every opinion deserves your energy.
Sometimes the healthiest thing you can say is absolutely nothing and carry on building a life that feels good to you.
Because ultimately, I know who I am. I know my intentions. I know the things I’m working on, the mistakes I’ve made, the things I’ve learned and the person I’m becoming.
I don’t need everybody else to agree with that.
So if protecting my image requires sacrificing my peace, they can keep the image.
I’m choosing my peace. 💛
