I’m Not Behind, I’m Just Unfolding in My Own Time
31 August 2026When You Come to a Crossroads
There are moments in life when you suddenly realise the path you’re on doesn’t feel right anymore. Nothing dramatic necessarily happens. There’s no massive flashing sign from the universe telling you to change direction. You just get this feeling that something doesn’t fit the way it used to and I think sometimes we make those moments much harder than they need to be because we’re waiting for certainty.
We want a sign, we want reassurance, we want someone to tell us we’re making the right decision before we actually make it. We’ll analyse every possible outcome, ask everyone else what they think and then probably analyse their answers as well because apparently just making one decision wasn’t enough work for our brains.
But what if you already know?
Sometimes one path is familiar simply because you’ve walked it for so long. You know where the bumps are. You know what’s around the corner. You know exactly who you are when you’re standing on it and there’s comfort in that, even when you know deep down that you’ve outgrown it.
The other path might look completely different. You can’t see where it ends and you definitely don’t have the entire bloody route mapped out. There are probably going to be twists, wrong turns and moments where you wonder what the fuck you’re doing.
But there’s also possibility.
I’ve spent a lot of my life thinking I needed to know exactly where something was going before I allowed myself to take the first step. I wanted to know the outcome before I took the risk. Except life doesn’t really work like that, does it?
Sometimes you just have to choose what feels right now.
Choosing a different path doesn’t mean the one behind you was a mistake. That’s something I think we forget. A path can have been exactly right for one version of you and still become completely wrong for the person you are now.
You’re allowed to change.
You’re allowed to outgrow things, people, places, beliefs and even versions of yourself that you once thought would be permanent. You’re allowed to look at something you once desperately wanted and realise you don’t want it anymore.
You’re allowed to choose differently without turning everything that came before into a regret.
Maybe that’s what crossroads are really about.
Not deciding which path is objectively the “right” one, but recognising which one belongs to the person you’re becoming rather than the person you used to be.
So if you’re standing at your own crossroads right now, maybe stop looking outside yourself for another sign.
You probably already know which path you want.
You might just need to trust yourself enough to take it.
Trust yourself. Choose your path and fucking go.
