16 August 2026Do It Scared: You Don’t Have to Feel Ready to Begin
How many things have you put off because you’re waiting to feel ready?
Waiting until you feel more confident. Waiting until life calms down. Waiting until you have more money, more time, more knowledge, more courage. Waiting for that magical moment when you suddenly wake up and think, right, now I’m ready.
The problem is, that moment doesn’t always come.
Sometimes you have to do it scared.
I’ve realised that so much of changing your life isn’t about suddenly becoming fearless. It’s about deciding that what you want on the other side of that fear matters more than staying where you are.
I definitely haven’t felt ready for everything I’ve done lately. Half the time I’ve probably been winging it and hoping for the best. There have been moments where I’ve questioned myself, wondered what the hell I’m doing and thought it would be much easier to stay somewhere comfortable and familiar.
But comfortable doesn’t always mean happy.
Sometimes comfortable just means known.
Starting again is scary. Setting boundaries is scary. Putting yourself out there is scary. Walking away from things that no longer feel right is scary. Trying something you’ve never done before is scary. Even choosing yourself can feel scary when you’ve spent years putting everyone else first.
But being scared doesn’t mean you’re making the wrong decision.
It means you’re human.
We seem to think confidence is something we need before we begin, when actually I think most confidence is built afterwards. You take one shaky little step, realise the world didn’t end, then take another. Eventually you look back and realise you’ve walked bloody miles.
That’s how I’m trying to live now.
Not waiting until every doubt disappears. Not waiting for somebody else to tell me I’m capable. Not waiting for permission to create the life I actually want.
Just taking the next step.
And some days that step will be massive. Other days it might be tiny. Both count.
You don’t need the whole plan figured out today. You don’t need to know exactly where the path is going to lead. You just need enough courage for the bit of road directly in front of you.
So if there’s something you’ve been putting off because you don’t feel ready, maybe this is your reminder:
You don’t have to feel ready to begin.
You can be nervous and still do it.
You can doubt yourself and still do it.
You can have absolutely no fucking clue how it’s all going to work out and still take that first step.
Do it scared.
You might just discover that the confidence you were waiting for was waiting for you on the other side of beginning.
